Professor Eloise Scotford appears before Environmental Audit Committee
28 February 2019
Professor Scotford gave evidence on the draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill 2018.
Professor Eloise Scotford, Professor of Environmental Law at UCL Laws, appeared before the Environmental Audit Committee on Wednesday 27th February to give evidence in the parliamentary inquiry for pre-legislative scrutiny of the draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill 2018.
Professor Scotford’s evidence highlighted the weaknesses in the draft Bill in providing a strong legal foothold for environmental principles as long-term foundations of environmental law and policy in England and the UK, as well as in its proposed domestic mechanism for enforcing environmental law.
The government’s draft Environment Bill sets out how structures for environmental law and governance will be maintained as the UK leaves the European Union, and builds on the vision of the 25 Year Environment Plan.
