Dr Tom Hickman, Reader in Public Law at UCL Laws, has been quoted in an article for The Times published yesterday. The article concerns research carried out by Thomson Reuters which reveal that more companies are relying on arguments based on the Human Rights Act in court cases, compared to the previous year.
Dr Hickman commented on the figures, and discussed the potential implications to businesses if the act is repealed or weakened, stating “there will be worries that an essential check on the behaviour of government departments and regulators is removed at the expense of ordinary citizens and businesses”.
