UCL is ranked 18th in the world, placing it in the top 4% of institutions globally. UCL is one of only three UK universities to be ranked in the global top 20, alongside Oxford and Cambridge.

The QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2019 compare the employability outcomes of 500 higher education institutions across the world, using five indicators: employer reputation, alumni outcomes, partnerships with employers, graduate employment rate, and employer/student connections.

UCL scored highly in employer reputation in particular, ranking 1st in the UK with a score of 97.3 out of 100. This is based on over 40,000 responses to the QS Employer Survey which asks employers to identify those institutions from which they source the most competent, innovative and effective graduates.

The university also performed well on alumni outcomes, coming 3rd in the UK. This metric was based on an analysis of the outcomes of 39,000 of the world’s most creative, entrepreneurial and/or philanthropic individuals to establish which universities are producing world-changing graduates.

Karen Barnard, Director of UCL Careers, said:

“It is fantastic to see that UCL has retained its place in the top 20 universities worldwide. When future employment and employability is so prominent on many students’ agendas, it is positive to see that UCL’s reputation with employers remains so high.”
