UCL Laws LLM students attend 2017 LWOW Original ConPosium in Miami
3 May 2017
Every year UCL Faculty of Laws provides LLM students a distinct opportunity to participate in the LawWithoutWalls programme pioneered by the University of Miami
LawWithoutWalls is a global, collaborative initiative, which brings together students and professionals across various different disciplines to solve contemporary challenges faced by the legal industry.
LLM students attended the 2017 LWOW Original ConPosium, a two-day interactive event where teams showcase their innovations to the LWOW Community and a panel of multidisciplinary judges, who assess the substance, viability, and creativity of the projects, on 22 and 23 April.
Aslihan Alparslan, LLM student, said:
‘I had the privilege of working in a team consisting of a leading law firm partner, in-house lawyers from major UK banks, a topic expert in Artificial Intelligence and other International students. My team and I were tasked with developing an innovative, technological solution to challenges posed to Financial Institutions as a result of constant regulatory change.
Subsequent to developing our business idea, my team and I travelled to the University of Miami where we pitched our complete project to a panel of judges and other LawWithoutWalls’ participants.
The trip to Miami was very exciting as I had the opportunity to engage with individuals from various cultural and professional backgrounds, build a global network, and hone my presentation skills. I also had the opportunity to explore Miami Beach and enjoy social events with other LawWithoutWalls’ participants – unquestionably a great way to distress before exam period.
After months of hard work, my team and I were very delighted that the audience decided that our project was the most ‘substantive’ therefore we were selected as winner under the Substance category. We celebrated at a rooftop bar at Coconut Grove, Miami with other teams.
I thank UCL Laws and Dr Anna Donovan for giving me this tremendous opportunity. I have acquired many transferable skills, formed friendships, explored cultures and most importantly, developed confidence in my own abilities.’
