15 April 2016

Experts on LAWS

Dr Kimberley Trapp participated in the third Meeting of Experts on Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS), chaired by Ambassador Michael Biontino of Germany and held at the United Nations Office at Geneva from 11-15 April.  In her presentation to the States Parties of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (‘CCW’), Dr. Trapp focused on the obligation to take precautionary measures in Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions (1977) and the consequences of lethal autonomous weapons systems for the assessment of compliance with that obligation.

Dr. Trapp’s presentation, along with those of other participating experts and certain CCW States Parties can be found here.

Dr Trapp is a Senior Lecturer in Public International Law, having joined the Faculty of Laws in 2012 from Newnham College, University of Cambridge.
