15 September 2015

As part of the London Summit on Climate Change and Adjudication, a talk by Professor Philippe Sands QC will be live streamed from the UK Supreme Court on 17 September

Melting Ice Sheet

In discussion with Professor James Crawford, Judge of the International Court of Justice, and Professor Lavanya Rajamani, Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi, Professor Sands will explore the potential role of international judges and courts in addressing the legal issues relating to climate change. The event will be streamed live on the Supreme Court website and questions to the panel will be invited via Twitter using the hashtag #climatecourts. A recording of the talk will be available to watch following the event on the Supreme Court’s YouTube Channel.

The talk is part of a London symposium bringing together over 25 eminent international jurists, legal practitioners and academics, and has been held ahead of upcoming the UN climate change conference in Paris to explore the extent to which courts are equipped to deal with the breadth and complexity of problems thrown up by climate change, and what changes might be needed to ensure that legal systems can keep pace with increasing demands to resolve environmental disputes.
