Lumi
Key information

Lumi Olteanu joined the Faculty in 2018 after she was awarded UCL IBIL’s scholarship to conduct her research on trade mark reputation in the online environment. She holds an LLM from Kent Law School (Distinction) where she was awarded the Oxford University Press Prize for Academic Excellence in the LLM, and a LL.B from the University of Bucharest. Lumi is currently chairing UCL's Work in Progress Forum (2019-20), and sat on the Editorial Board of the UCL Journal of Law and Jurisprudence (2018-19).

Lumi qualified as a lawyer in Romania in 2011 and she has been practicing for more than 8 years across a variety of legal areas including but not limited to intellectual property law, data privacy, arbitration, commercial law, corporate law and competition law.

Her main area of research is intellectual property law. Her PhD project is called A Critical Analysis of the Reputation Required for the Purposes of Trade mark anti-dilution protection and its underpinnings: To What Extent Does the Accepted Reputation Test Mirror the Reputation of a Trade mark as Created Through Digital Advertising Techniques?

Lumi's research seeks to critically analyse the concept of 'reputation' as a requirement for anti-dilution protection and to challenge its relevance and justifications in parallel with how reputation is created in the online environment. Another aspect of her research will focus on the role of consumers in the creation of the reputation of the brand in the online environment.
