Law Society Pro Bono Bursary

The Law Society Pro Bono Bursary is now closed.

Purpose of the bursary 

To financially assist students who are passionate about contributing to their communities through pro bono work but lack the financial resources to do so. The bursary is intended to evidence the Law Society’s support for and encouragement of Pro Bono activities. 

Target recipient 

Undergraduate students who struggle to participate in pro bono projects due to a lack of financial resources or other economic pressures. 

Amount of Bursary 

4 bursaries in total, each worth of £250 

Selection Process 

An independent panel (which consists of the CAJ Project Coordinator, and the Law Society Advisor and / or the Director of UG Programmes) will review all applications and decide on the recipients based on the below criteria. 

Other requirements 

  • Student must be an undergraduate law student (as this is funded by the undergraduate Law Society) 

  • Applicants must be taking part in a pro bono project at any time between February to April; who is struggling to participate in pro bono projects due to a lack of financial resources or other economic pressures 

  • Recipients will need to write for the Centre for Access to Justice Blog twice a month, from February to April (at least 4 times in total). The writing will be about their pro bono work experience and the impact of Pro Bono on them. Identity of students can be anonymized if they wish. 

Application (NOW CLOSED)

Students will need to submit a CV of no longer than 2 pages (include their pro bono work) and a cover letter (no longer than 300 words), giving details of pro bono activities/activities they engage in, and the financial challenges they are facing in continuing their service. If their pro bono activity is outside of UCL, they will need to submit an extra letter from their pro bono supervisor confirming that they take part in the pro bono activity.
