The UCL Centre for Access to Justice is undertaking applied health research at the UCL Legal Advice Clinic, a free student-led face-to-face legal advice service. The research is examining the health impact of free legal advice in a primary care setting. The Research Associate will be working under the supervision of Professor Dame Hazel Genn, Principal Investigator. You will support a small team of solicitors and socio-legal researchers from the UCL Faculty of Laws by undertaking research examining the clinic’s potential outcomes on the participants’ health and well-being.

Duties will include running follow-up surveys with participants, maintaining and building a database of responses, undertaking face-to-face interviews with participants, analysing the outcomes of the study using both statistical and qualitative analysis and writing up the results for academic publication. Expected total hours to be worked per week will be between 7 and 14 hours.

A degree in health or the social sciences is essential and evidence of an interest in applied health research would need to be demonstrated. The successful applicant should have experience of health research, including running surveys and undertaking face-to-face interviews. The ability to perform quantitative analysis of health outcome data, as well as qualitative analysis of interviews, is essential. Good working knowledge of statistical software and qualitative analysis packages is desirable. Knowledge of good practice regarding the collection and storing of participant health data is also a key requirement of this role.
