On Tuesday, 27 May 2025, GCDC member Professor Myriam Hunter-Henin offered comments on a paper entitled ‘Hard law/soft law in the production of nationalist secularism: The view from Québec’ presented by Professor Dia Dabby (Université Saint-Louis/UC Louvain Belgium, Université de Québec à Montreal). The event, organised by the Freeman Centre, University of Sussex (Falmer, Brighton), was led and chaired by Dr Ashleigh Keall (Assistant Professor in Law at Sussex University and a UCL 2020 PhD graduate). In her comments, Professor Hunter-Henin provided Franco-Quebec comparative perspectives on secularism and shared critical reflections on the importance of soft law in that area. Members of the Freeman Centre as well as Professor Richard Moon (Visiting Professor at Queen Mary University, Distinguished University Professor at the University of Windsor University, Canada) then joined into a broader discussion on nationalism and secularism.
