Internal research support
Our internal research activities are designed to support researchers at different stages of their academic journey within UCL.
The Works-in-Progress Seminars (WIPS) provide a forum for members of the GCDC community to present on their work and receive constructive feedback from colleagues. As an internal-facing forum, WIPS offer Centre members and visiting researchers the opportunity to workshop papers, talks, and book chapters at various stages of development, benefitting from insightful feedback before publication or public presentation.
WIPS follow the 10-10 format: 10 pages of reading and no more than 10 minutes of presentation. The seminars embody the collaborative ethos of the GCDC, fostering a research environment where ideas are tested and arguments strengthened through constructive critique. By facilitating peer dialogue, WIPS ensure that research produced within the Centre is of the highest scholarly standard.
The GCDC supports the Oxford-UCL PhD conference, which holds alternately at UCL and Oxford each year, bringing together public law PhD students at both institutions to present their work and benefit from comments from their colleagues as well as senior academics in the field.
In the 2024-25 academic year, participants gathered at UCL to present on various public law topics, including judicial review, housing rights, states of emergencies, and constitution-making processes. Read a summary of the event on our Latest News page.
