The Global Centre for Democratic Constitutionalism, based at the UCL Faculty of Laws, seeks to advance scholarly understanding of the relationship between democratic government and the rule of law, in domestic, comparative and transnational perspective, with a particular focus on identifying the supporting conditions for constitutional resilience in electorally competitive political systems.
The Centre’s programme of activities consists of internal and external research seminars, an annual lecture, regular international conferences, and a robust group of new appointees – including visiting fellows, post-doctoral researchers, and doctoral students.
The Centre commenced operations in the 2024-25 academic year, with the appointment of its Director, Professor Erin Delaney, the Leverhulme Professor of Comparative Constitutional Law. Other members of the team are Professor Jeff King (Deputy Director), Dr Christopher Adams (Centre Manager), and Rukevwe Otive-Igbuzor (Research Assistant).
The Public Law Group at UCL is being integrated into the Centre, with its seminar series rebranded as the Public Law Seminar Series. A formal launch of the Centre is scheduled for early 2025, with full announcements to be made in the coming months.
