Gerstenberg to Join LCEL as Visiting Scholar

Dr Oliver Gerstenberg will join the Luxembourg Centre for European Law as a visiting scholar in June 2025.

GCDC member Dr Oliver Gerstenberg will be a distinguished visiting scholar at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL) from 17–27 June 2025. The LCEL, which is directed by Professor Takis Tridimas and which was formerly the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg (MPI Luxembourg), is a leading research institution dedicated to the study of the European legal framework. During his stay, Dr Gerstenberg will give a paper on the role of the Court of Justice of the European Union in concretising Article 2 TEU values, such as the rule of law and democracy. In addition to this, he will present a paper on protecting fundamental rights by means of organisation and procedure at a workshop on horizontal effect organised by Professor Johan van der Walt at the University of Luxembourg. Among the speakers are Frank Michelman, Mark Tushnet, Steven Gardbaum, Joel Bakan, Richard Mailey, Gautam Bhatia, and Andreas Kulick.
