‘Can Law Stop Criminals Misusing AI?’ – UCL Master of Laws (LLM) online open event
Join UCL Laws for an online LLM open event with Professor Michael Veale exploring AI, technology law and digital regulation, followed by a UCL Master of Laws (LLM) introduction and Q&A
Join Michael Veale, Professor of Technology, Law and Policy at UCL Laws, as he explores how law can respond to the misuse of artificial intelligence, and discover the new LLM Law and Technology specialism at UCL Laws.
AI is being used every day to generate deepfakes of friends and family to undertake complex scams, to inform terrorist groups and cyberattacks, and to abusively create or alter intimate images of adults and children. These things are broadly considered unambiguously bad, but it can be difficult or impossible to stop this.
Law is increasingly looking to regulate a lot of other actors in the technological supply chain: cloud providers, operating systems, mobile phones, companies operating the networks, marketplaces where people download and share models, and places where criminals communicate with each other and their victims. How can, and should, law respond proportionally and effectively to safeguard society against the abusive misuse of AI?
About the session
This online session will include a talk by Professor Michael Veale, Can Law Stop Criminals Misusing AI?, exploring how law can respond to the misuse of artificial intelligence in areas such as deepfakes, scams, cyberattacks, and other forms of online harm.
It will also provide you with an overview of our LLM Law programme, an introduction to our new LLM Law and Technology specialism, followed by a Q&A session with Sarah Campling (Programme Director) and the LLM Admissions team.
