Remedies in Human Rights Law: A Comparative Perspective between the Inter-American and European Systems
About this event
This seminar will explore the evolution, main features, and potential of remedies issued by international human rights courts to address human rights violations. The panel will discuss recent developments in the law of reparations, including the Ukraine war, climate change, Indigenous peoples’ rights, and transitional justice.
Drawing on insights from both the Inter-American and European human rights systems, the panel will engage in a comparative discussion of how courts approach structural remedies and the impact this has on compliance with judgments. The event will feature contributions from distinguished scholars, including Judge Oscar Parra (Special Jurisdiction for Peace, Colombia), Dr. Par Engstrom (UCL Institute of the Americas), Professor Colm O’Cinneide (UCL Laws) and Professor Veronika Fikfak (Human Rights Institute).
Participants:
- Judge Óscar Parra Vera, Special Jurisdiction for Peace, Colombia
- Dr. Par Engstrom, Associate Professor in Human Rights
- Prof. Colm O’Cinneide, Professor of Human Rights Law
- Prof. Veronika Fikfak, Professor of Human Rights and International Law
