About the speaker
David Howarth is Professor of Law and Public Policy at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Clare College. His research straddles constitutional law and private law, and he has a particular interest in legal design (see e.g. Law as Engineering (Elgar, 2013)). He had a parallel career in public service, taking in, for example, five years as a Member of Parliament (which included membership of the Justice select committee and serving as Shadow Attorney-General and Shadow Secretary of State of Justice) and eight years as an Electoral Commissioner.
