About the Event

What are some of the key legal, factual and economic issues in relation to damages that need to be considered throughout the disputes process? Damages experts at HKA will provide an overview of the fundamental questions that can often arise in the assessment of a damages claim, and will share examples from their prior engagements.

About the Speakers

Colin Johnson FCCA is a partner in HKA’s Forensic Accounting and Commercial Damages practice. He has over 30 years experience in relation to development and operation of large projects, often energy and natural resources in emerging markets and has acted as a debt and equity investor, legal and financial advisor, board director and project developer prior to becoming an expert witness. He acts on disputes relating to valuations, project finance, project development and damages claims more generally as well as in a number of investigations. His assignments often use his project experience and/or his Spanish, Portuguese, French or German skills (including acting as expert in Spanish where appropriate). He has also dealt with a number of different insolvency or distressed debt situations.

Joseph Kirby CFA is an Associate Director in HKA’s Forensic Accounting and Commercial Damages practice and is based in London. He has a decade of experience in contentious valuations, commercial and corporate reporting valuations and loss of profits assessments. He specialises in the assessment of damages and contentious valuation issues in litigation, international arbitration and expert determinations. Joseph has been instructed as an expert in the High Court of England and Wales. He is experienced in matters involving breaches of contract, shareholder disputes, breach of warranty, unfair prejudice, transaction-related disputes and intellectual property infringements.

Jennifer Carnegie is a qualified ICAEW chartered accountant in HKA’s Forensic Accounting and Commercial Damages practice. She has over four years’ experience in the financial services industry working predominately in audit at one of the big four accounting firms, gaining exposure to the banking and capital markets industry sectors. Her experience includes preparing expert witness reports and performing analysis as part of an expert team.
