About the Lecture
The talk will examine the ‘lines in the sand’ drawn by the United Kingdom courts when assessing accountability for the military and security services during times of armed conflict.
About the Speaker
Richard Hermer KC is a lawyer practicing from Matrix Chambers London. He has been instructed in numerous cases involving armed conflicts and counter-terrorism including Al Skeini v Secretary of State for Defence (extra-territorial application of the HRA); Al Jedda(interrelationship between the ECHR and the UN Charter); Al Waheed (interrelationship between EHCR and IHL); Serdar Mohammed (Crown Act of State); Alseran v MoD (liability for detention and mistreatment); Belhadj (foreign act of state) and Elgouzoli v SSHD (lawfulness of international data processing).
Richard also practices in the field of Private International Law and appeared in cases such as Lungowe v Vendata; Okpabi v Shell; AAA v Unilever; Begum v Maran and Abu Zubaydah v FCDO.
