Professor Richard Moon presents on his new book ‘The Life and Death of Freedom of Expression’.
13 February 2025

In this edition of the Public Law Seminar Series, Professor Richard Moon (University of Windsor) presented on his new book The Life and Death of Freedom of Expression. In the book, Professor Moon argues that freedom of expression is valuable because human agency and identity emerge in discourse – in the joint activity of creating meaning. He recognises that the social character of individual agency and identity is crucial to understanding not only the value of expression but also its potential for harm.
Following Professor Moon’s presentation, commentators Professor Myriam Hunter-Henin (UCL), Dr Bernard Keenan (UCL), and Professor Orla Lynskey (UCL) offered their remarks, leading into further discussions and a question-and-answer session with participants at the seminar. The event was chaired by Professor Jeff King (UCL).
