Professor Myriam Hunter-Henin leads discussion on the interactions between EU Law and domestic norms.
28 March 2025

On 28 March 2025, GCDC member Professor Myriam Hunter-Henin led a timely and engaging discussion with Advocate General Dean Spielmann and her Law with French Law students at UCL on the interactions between EU Law and French domestic norms. Also at the session was fellow Centre member Professor Oliver Gerstenberg, who spoke to the German context.
The discussion was particularly timely in light of recent challenges to the primacy of EU Law. Notably, Advocate General Spielmann recently delivered his Opinion in Case C-448/23 Commission v Poland, which addresses a significant breach of EU Law. In his view, the Polish Constitutional Court’s judgments of 14 July and 7 October 2021 – where it disputed the supremacy of EU Law – constituted ‘a frontal attack on the fundamental principles of the EU legal order and the authority of the judgments of the Court [of Justice]’.
