Get involved

The GCDC offers a range of research fellowships and PhD studentships, as well as internal and public-facing events.

Visiting Fellowships

The GCDC hosts visiting scholars from around the globe, offering opportunities to connect with a research community, present current work, and form new collaborations. Guidance on the application and appointment process will be available soon.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Postdoctoral Research Fellows play a key role in supporting the Centre’s activities and contributing to high-quality outputs through the conduct of both independent and collaborative research with other Centre members. They also have significant academic freedom to develop their own independent research profile and agenda.

The Centre is currently accepting applications for up to two Research Fellows and one Quantitative Research Fellow. We are keen to receive applications from candidates who hold, or are close to completing, a PhD in law, political science, sociology, or a relevant social science field. For more information about the fellowships see the job descriptions for the Research Fellow and Quantitative Research Fellow roles on the UCL jobs website. Applications close 31 March 2025. Enquires about the positions may be sent to gcdc@ucl.ac.uk.

PhD Studentships

PhD students play a substantial role in the Centre’s intellectual life, while also having appropriate autonomy and support for determining the focus of their own research while at UCL Laws. We are eager to receive applications from candidates interested in advancing scholarship within our focus areas.

The Centre is currently offering fully funded PhD studentships for study at UCL Laws. These studentships cover the cost of tuition fees, plus a maintenance stipend per annum for full-time study. The annual stipend for 2024-25 (as a guide) is £21,337. Costs are pro-rated for part-time students.

Interested candidates should apply via the standard UCL Laws PhD application process. The next round of applications will open in September 2025. We will consider all applications that align with the focus areas of the Centre, but we also recommend that interested candidates indicate their interest in the studentships within their application. For more information on PhD studies at UCL Laws and how to apply, visit the PhD study page. Enquires about the studentships may be directed to gcdc@ucl.ac.uk.
