Bio:

Mrs Ruwayha is a PhD Candidate at the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Law and a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Global Studies Institute. Her doctoral research investigates the long-term effects of prolonged states of emergency, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the fight against terrorism, on liberal democracies. In her comparative research, she examines how crises can gradually lead to the abuse of exceptional powers and potential shift towards illiberal and/or authoritarian modes of governance.

Her work aligns closely with the GCDC’s mission, focusing on the resilience of legal systems and blurred boundaries between normalcy and exception. Through her engagement in the Centre’s activities, she contributes to a critical dialogue on shifts in democratic governance and its implications for the rule of law and civil liberties.
