Accessing Bentham House
Staff Access
UCL Laws staff have access to Bentham House:
- Monday to Friday – 7am to 11pm
- Saturday – 9am to 6pm
- Sunday – Closed
During office hours (08:00 to 18:00), all staff and visitors will enter by the main entrance on Endsleigh Gardens. You should show your UCL ID card to the security staff as you enter the building. Permitted staff may also access the building via the Western or Eastern entrance.
For visiting members of staff who require access, please contact the Operations Team. Access for visiting staff will usually be granted from 8am-9pm.
Internal doors will be locked and unlocked using physical keys. Staff will be issued with keys corresponding to their requirement i.e. – office and classroom access.
All staff using the apartments will now need to collect an access card in addition to the apartment keys in order to access the apartments. The card will provide access to the building during closure times and will need to be always carried with the apartment user whilst outside of the apartment. .
Student Access to Bentham House
During term time, taught Laws’ students will have access to the building between 8am and 8pm. Non Laws’ students will have access from 8am to 6pm.

Meeting Rooms
Booking Meeting Rooms
Three meeting rooms are available in Bentham House and are only bookable by Laws staff. The meeting rooms are available on the following floors:
2nd floor- 220
- 320
- 321
The meeting rooms can fit 2-8 people and are bookable via CMISGo.

IT Equipment and Facilities
Each tutorial room is fitted with a display monitor, which is connected to a Desktop@UCL PC operated by a keyboard and mouse. Log in using your UCL User ID and password.
A control panel located beside the display provides the method for selecting the following options via labelled push buttons:

All UCL Laws meeting rooms are equipped with a PC which can be used for video conferencing, video recording (personal lecture-cast) and (Zoom/Teams). If you encounter any problems with this equipment, there’s a phone in every room, which has a speed dial to IT/AV Services, this is a dedicated line and someone will either help resolve it over the phone or a team member will come out.

Telephones
Teams Calling is UCL's new telephony solution. With Teams Calling you are able to make and receive your external telephone calls using your UCL telephone number on any device no matter where you are, so long as you are logged in to your Microsoft Teams account.
Unified Voice is the team that provide all of the support for UCL's telephony services, including fixed lines, emergency phones, contact centre and mobiles.
All tutorial rooms and meeting rooms in Bentham House are equipped with telephones. You do not need to log in to these telephones. To place a call, press the Call button and dial. For external calls, add 9 before the number. You can press the Call button before or after dialing the number. To answer a call, press the Call button.
Printing Using print@UCL
If you are using a Managed Laws computer, Print@UCL should have already been installed on your device. When you print, you should see the option of printing to print-ucl from the available printers list.If you do not see the print@UCL printer or are using an unmanaged system, contact Laws IT by email.
After submitting your print job to the print-ucl queue:
- Go to your nearest print@UCL printer and scan your UCL ID card to log in to the device
- You will be presented with the following menu options:
- Copy
- Pull Print
- To print, touch the Pull Print button. The window will then display the jobs you have sent to the print-ucl queue. Your most recent job will be displayed at the top of the list.
- Select the print job or jobs that you wish to release and touch the Print button at the bottom left of the screen. You can increase the number of copies using the counter button at the bottom right of the screen.
- Click the Home button in the top left hand corner of the screen to return to the Home menu.
- Log out of the device by scanning your UCL ID card or selecting the green key button in the top right hand corner of the display area.

Communal Areas
The Hub
The Hub is a social space for staff and students to use. There is a Sodexo managed café during term-time providing food and drink for purchase. The café opening hours are 9am - 5pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 9am - 3:30pm Wednesday and Friday. The café is closed outside of term-time.
The Hub will also function as a space for organised events during the evenings.
Toilets
Toilets are located on all floors. Emergancy alarm chords in the toilets will notify the main reception during office hours. Out of office hours, notification will divert to the main UCL security desk.
Showers
Shower and changing facilities are located in the lower ground floor, underneath the main reception. Lockers are available but are not to be claimed for long term use and you must bring your own padlock to secure your belongings during use.
Kitchen and Mini Kitchenettes
Staff and Postgraduate research students are encouraged to make use of the full services provided in the 4th floor staff room including:
- Microwaves
- Fridges (limited space, personal food items should be disposed of at the end of each week)
- Nespresso Coffee machine
- Kettles for hot water
- Drinking water is available from the taps in the staff kitchen and kitchenettes
- Drinking fountain located on the Lower Ground floor
- Mini Kitchenettes at the end of each corridor on each floor of the North side of the building where there are fridges, kettles and a sink where you can get drinking water and wash up.
Rubbish and Recycling
The main bins used throughout the office have separate sections for mixed recycling, food waste, and non-recyclable waste. Most items can be placed in the mixed recycling bin, however food contaminated items should go in the non-recyclable waste bin. Clear and concise guidance on which bins to use is available here.
Confidential Waste
Any paperwork that is of a sensitive nature should be disposed of securely using the confidential waste stations and shredders provided. These can be located in:

- 2nd Floor - Priniting Room 217
- 3rd Floor - Operations Office Room 323 (Staff Only)
- 4th Floor - Print Area, North Side of the bridge

Parking Facilities
Bicycle Racks
There are bike racks available at Bentham House for a limited number of bicycles. Access to the bike racks is via the gate on Endsleigh Street. If you require card access to the gate to store a bike please contact the Operations Team. Bicycles are left at your own risk and you are responsible for its security. You may leave a lock on a bike rack but this does not mean that the rack is reserved for your use. The racks are available on a first come, first served basis.
Disabled Parking
For those that require disabled parking, you must apply for a Green Badge via Camden Council, as Blue Badge parking is not applicable in the Bloomsbury area.
Car Parking
There are currently no car park facilities available within Bentham House. However, there are pay and display spaces around Endsleigh Gardens and Endsleigh Street
