Mark Zukas – LLM Environmental Law 2006

Mark Zukas

I chose to pursue this LLM specialism as I enjoyed learning about environmental law during my undergraduate Law degree. More importantly, I felt it would enable me to make a difference.

I was drawn to study at UCL Laws because it is an institution with a global reputation and an esteemed community of academics. It was also the only institution in the country offering an LLM specialism in environmental law. The flexibility of the LLM programme allowed me to study topics including advanced equity and trusts, the international law of natural resources, environmental law in Europe, and international environmental law.

I fondly recall researching case law on resulting trusts in the old section of the law library – the wood panelling and comfortable surroundings were redolent of days gone by.

After completing my LLM, I qualified as a Fellow of CILEx (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) and I currently work as a litigation lawyer.

My advice to current students would be to take the time to absorb your surroundings. There is plenty to see and do in and around Gower Street, IOE, and Chancery Lane - especially for law students. Take full advantage of UCL’s proximity to legal London.
