Around the world, both new and long-established democracies are witnessing an erosion of democratic norms. This democratic decline is marked by the rise of populist authoritarianism, the weakening of institutional and constitutional safeguards, and the violation of human rights.
Responding to these challenges requires the engagement and support of all those committed to democracy and the rule of law.
At the Global Centre for Democratic Constitutionalism (GCDC), we are creating the inclusive, methodologically diverse, intellectually rigorous, active and robust research community required to usher in a new era of constitutional resilience and revitalised democracy.
Across a broad range of activities, the GCDC is advancing scholarly knowledge on democratic government and the rule of law, as well as producing leading research on conditions and pathways for constitutional resilience in electorally competitive political systems.
If you make a gift in support of the GCDC, you will be fostering quality research on the future of democratic governance – an existential topic for our time. In line with the broader vision and values of the Faculty of Laws, this includes:
- internal and external research seminars, lectures, conferences, and other academic events that bring together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers;
- ensuring that our events reflect the global nature of the threats to democratic constitutionalism by supporting the participation of a diverse community of scholars;
- facilitating the research needs of postgraduate and postdoctoral students to ensure their academic success and equal participation (e.g., travel bursaries for field research, conference fees).
If you are interested in furthering this work, you can donate now or contact Professor Erin Delaney to discuss opportunities for giving and the potential impact your generosity can have.
Thank you for your support of the Global Centre for Democratic Constitutionalism.
