Why did you choose to study the UCL Pre-University Summer School?
I wanted to try university life and know what it’s like to live in the UK. The course content really interested me – I liked the idea of getting lectures in both science and humanities. I like to do some experiments and practical things, but also I’m also interested in ideas about humans and different views of people.
UCL is right in the centre of London, it’s very easy to get around with lots of land marks and a nice river!
What have been the highlights of the course and why?
Academic
I really enjoyed the Carrot Pigment Experiment lab class; we explored the reasons why carrots have different pigments. We used a lot of special scientific instruments that I had never used before, such as a spectrophotometer. I learnt how to do an experiment, analyse the results, make conclusions and explain things in scientific ways.
Social
I liked the party we had with other UCL students at Bloomsbury Lanes; they were really fun! We talked and sang karaoke, played ping pong, played bowling. The UCL students were really friendly and very open, it was good to socialise with them.
London
I liked sitting in the parks around UCL chatting with friends, we don’t have a chance to do that in Thailand because it’s too hot!
What skills have you developed on the UCL Pre-university Summer School?
I’ve developed my speaking and listening skills as I’ve been speaking English every day. It has especially helped to work with people who don’t have the same language as me.
This has also helped my team work skills – for example in the research project I have to work with a Chinese classmate, so we assigned each other work, covering different topics and researching together so we could meet our deadlines.
What do you want to do once you’ve finished high school?
I will continue my studies in finance or economics - I’d like to study in the UK, in either UCL or Manchester. I’d like to manage money one day.
What advice would you give to a student who wants to do the UCL Pre-university Summer School next year?
Be happy and enjoy your life, learn how to manage your time, and don’t worry – you will absolutely make friends! I have made a lot of friends from around the world and we hope to see each other again in the future.
