Prerequisite for entry
Having completed level 2 or equivalent.
Term duration
10 x 2-hour classes.
Progression
After 20 hours students may progress to level 3.
Aims and objectives
- to enable students further develop their skills (in listening, speaking, reading and writing) in Modern Greek in a variety of everyday situations;
- to further develop awareness of aspects of Greek culture within a European / global context.
A communicative method of teaching / learning is fostered, although aspects of grammar are covered as well. Students are aided to reflect on their learning skills and experiential / autonomous learning is encouraged, including the use of interactive ICT material.
Course content
Main topics/themes to be covered:
- further practice on shopping, e.g. for clothing etc…
- further practice on expressing likes, dislikes and preferences
- everyday activities, including going to the bank
- organising transport and travel
- eating in a taverna – Greek meals and drinks
- describing a holiday in the future
- describing a town
- living environment: accommodation and furniture
- booking a room in a hotel
Linguistic structures/ Phonetics
- verbs: present and simple and continuous future tenses / simple imperative
- nouns: genders / singular and plural / nominative and accusative cases
- adjectives showing number, origin and colour(singular and plural / concord with nouns)
- pronouns: demonstrative, interrogative etc…
- adverbs showing frequency and place
