What is your background?

I am currently studying at Jiangsu Normal University in China, majoring in English education. I will graduate next summer.

Why did you choose to study the UCL Online English Course?

I have the idea of applying to UCL as a graduate student, and I also wanted to learn about academic writing.

This programme gave me a chance to experience the teaching style of UCL in advance and improve my English in a number of ways.

What were the highlights of the course?

I think the lectures and communication with people from different countries was really an unforgettable experience.

I have never found myself in such a diverse world, where education, arts and so on are different in each country.

Rather than taking everything for granted, I learned to think more critically and more comprehensively.

Personally, it is quite difficult for me to make a presentation. With the help of Kathy and David (my teachers), I was able to make a presentation with confidence and logic.

What was the most challenging thing about the course?

I think the biggest difficulty of the course is how to express myself, which has something to do with my previous education.

Previously, the education I received in China focused more on reading, so I didn't have many opportunities to truly express my ideas, so sometimes I didn't know how to accurately convey what I wanted to express on the course.

What were your teachers like?

The teachers on the course are very similar but very different in that they are all helpful and knowledgeable, but the difference is the style of each teacher. Kathy is considerate and gentle, David is humorous and witty, and each teacher has their own characteristics and charm.

What skills did you develop on the UCL Online English Course and how will they help you in the future?

I learnt how to make a questionnaire, write a report, make a presentation, and take notes. I think these skills will benefit me a lot, because they can be used in the later learning process, and they are all very practical.
