Progression to other universities
The aim of the UPC is to help students enter one of the very best universities in the UK. All UK universities consider the UPC for entry onto undergraduate degrees and 100% of UPC students received a Russell Group offer in 2020.
All undergraduate university applications in the UK, including to UCL, are made online through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). You complete one application form choosing a maximum of five universities to apply to. The deadline for university applications is 15 January. If you plan to apply to Oxford or Cambridge, you need to complete your UCAS application by mid-October - just a few weeks after starting the UPC.
UCAS information and registration sessions take place at the beginning of the UPC course to help you with the UCAS process. You will be provided with excellent support and advice in selecting appropriate universities and courses. Your subject lecturers, language tutors and the Centre's Education Adviser will all assist you in the process.
Grading
You can see the grades that UCL requires for entry onto an undergraduate degree in the table below and compare these with the required A-level grades for your desired undergraduate degree programme in the undergraduate prospectus.
Equivalence with A-Level grades
The table below gives approximate equivalences to A-level grades:
A-Level | A* | A | B | C | D | E |
UPC percentages | 76% | 70-75% | 64-69% | 56-63% | 48-55% | 40-47% |
UPC grades | A* | A | B | C | D | E |
UCL Undergraduate Admissions views 65% in the Academic English module as equivalent to 6.5 in IELTS, 60% to 6.0, and so on.
Types of offer
It is typical that conditional offers are expressed in one of the following ways:
- As an overall average percentage.
- As an overall average with a specified percentage in one or more modules (normally Academic English and the two compulsory science/humanities modules).
- As a specified percentage in each of the four modules studied.
Note: the 25% of the mark awarded to the extended research project in Academic Research: Approaches & Methods and Science & Society should be borne in mind when making offers on the basis of overall percentages.
