Entry requirements

Learn more about the academic and English language requirements you need to study the International Pre-Master’s at UCL.

To be considered for the IPM, you will need to meet both our:

  • Academic entry requirements
  • English language entry requirements

Academic entry requirements

You must show that you have a strong academic background by demonstrating a minimum of a lower second-class degree (2:2) or an overseas equivalent.

Check whether your overseas qualification meets our general entry requirements.

Entry requirements by country

Entry requirement of your future degree

If your ambition is to study a postgraduate degree at UCL, you should check whether your first degree meets the academic requirements of the postgraduate degree you want to apply for.

Find the specific academic requirements for your chosen programme in UCL’s degree finder.

UCL postgraduate offer holders

If you hold an offer for a UCL postgraduate degree for 2024-25 entry and an offer for the IPM, we will consider a request to defer your postgraduate offer by one year.

English language entry requirements

You must be able to show us that your English is sufficient to study the IPM.

If you studied in a majority English-speaking country...

If you have completed a degree in a country that UCL considers to be "majority English-speaking", you don't need to submit an English language qualification as part of your application.

The qualification must be awarded within two years of your IPM enrolment. This includes the summer two years before enrolment if starting in September.

If you have studied for a degree in more than one country, such as a joint degree between a Chinese and UK university, you must complete at least three years of undergraduate study or one year of postgraduate study in the majority English-speaking country.
