JRO launches pilot scheme to fast-track review of simple study amendments

3 October 2025

The JRO has launched a new pilot scheme to speed up its review of simple, non-substantial study amendments, allowing researchers to submit amendments to regulators more quickly.

From 1 October, eligible non-standard amendments will be processed within one working day.

The pilot applies to existing UCL sponsored studies and UCLH sponsored studies that fall outside of the MHRA’s remit.

The pilot covers routine administrative or participant-facing updates, including changes to Chief or Principal Investigators, eligibility criteria, participant documents, or minor corrections.

Under the pilot, investigators need to complete a self-service amendment form. As part of this process they should:

  • complete an ‘Amendment Tool’ and then upload this within the self-service amendment form
  • upload clean and tracked versions of all affected study documents to the amendment form

From within the amendment form, researchers can then send all materials directly to the JRO.
