BRC marks patient and public involvement week

8 October 2019

Events are taking place across UCL and the BRC this week to encourage researchers to involve patients and the public in research.

The Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and Engagement: making research for everyone, with everyone week includes practical sessions for researchers on how to grow and develop a patient involvement group, and how to secure funding for PPI activities.

View details of all events.

The PPI week is taking place as the BRC is advertising its current round of bursaries for PPI activities (deadline for applications – 27 October 2019).

It also follows a successful BRC event last week to seek the views of the public on data in research.

Evidence of involving patients and the public in the planning, design, management and dissemination of research is increasingly a requirement of major funding bodies in the UK.

And the BRC expects investigators where possible to actively involve patients and the public in their research.

Involving patients and the public in research can lead to treatments that better meet patient needs, and can lead to research results that are more likely to change clinical practice.
