UCLH BRC seeks researchers for community engagement initiative

27 November 2019

The Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at UCLH is looking for researchers happy to meet and talk with local community groups.

The BRC is organising talks on disease prevention and updates on the latest research as part of an initiative run in partnership with Healthwatch Islington. The aim is to increase the diversity – in terms of ethnicity and level of income – of the people involved in research at UCLH.

The scheme has already organised successful meetings with Bangladeshi, Somali and Greek Cypriot community groups, with dementia researchers talking with people about the risks for dementia, treatments and the latest research.

Sessions, which last 2 hours and are interpreted, are normally in Islington or Camden community settings. Feedback has been that sessions were enjoyable for both local residents and researchers.

If you are a researcher interested in taking part, or in engaging with a particular group, please contact Rosamund Yu, the BRC’s Head of Patient and Public Involvement and Communications: rosamund.yu@ucl.ac.uk.

The BRC is looking for researchers in the following areas in particular:

  • Cardiovascular/Heart disease
  • Blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer (Ovarian and gynae)
  • Stroke prevention
  • Hearing loss
  • Infectious diseases in children
  • Mental health
  • Gastrointestinal diseases
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Reproductive health
