NIHR Senior Investigators competition round launched

22 August 2019

The NIHR has launched the 13th competition round for NIHR Senior Investigators funding scheme.

The BRC strongly encourages senior UCLH and UCL researchers to apply to the scheme, and the BRC Operations Team is available to help with and advise on the application process.

The deadline for applications is 1pm on 2 October 2019.

The award recognises outstanding contributions to research. Leading researchers funded by the NIHR (and who are employed by a NHS Trust, university or charity based in England) can apply.

Each Senior Investigator receives a personal annual award from the NIHR of £15k for discretionary spend related to their research activities.

Senior Investigator awards are also important because the affiliated NHS Trust receives funding in its Research Capability Funding (RCF) allocation for each Senior Investigator it has. Each year from the UCLH RCF allocation the Joint Research Office endeavours to allocate an additional personal RCF award to each Senior Investigator.

NIHR Senior Investigators will receive a 4 year award on the recommendation of an Independent Selection Committee, and can reapply for a second award on completion of the first award.

Senior Investigators can receive a maximum of 2 awards totalling no more than 8 years. After two awards, an NIHR Senior Investigator will be awarded an Emeritus status if continuing in substantive employment.
