PPI service available for grant preparation

31 January 2014

Researchers filling in the PPI section of grant application forms can now get help organising early stage patient and public input into the design of their research.

The JRO is employing a PPI coordinator for 3 months to work with researchers preparing grant applications.

The coordinator will work with researchers to set up a meeting with patients and lay people before the researcher has finalised the design of their study and submitted their grant application. By setting up a meeting at such an early stage, the aim is to communicate best practice in PPI and to enable researchers to consult lay people on the actual design of their research. As well as contributing to the quality of research, the hope is this will enhance their chances of successful funding applications.

Support in setting up and running a consultation meeting with lay people includes:

  • advice and help in identifying and inviting lay people
  • managing the meeting including administration (room booking etc) and drafting of briefing papers
  • support in identifying key questions and planning the meeting
  • facilitation of the meeting
  • support with meeting follow-up.
