Analysis briefs

The analytical briefs showcase methods and techniques which can be applied to improve an understanding of crime and disorder problems

Each topic is written by someone with intimate knowledge of using the analytical technique on real-world data, and reviewed by a member of our editorial board.

The topics are distilled into five one-page briefs which can be read individually or as a package.  They are structured as follows:

  • The summary brief condenses all the key points onto one page;
  • The purpose and theory brief outlines the aim of the method and relevant theory which underpins it;
  • The method brief gives step-by-step instructions on how to perform the analysis and mentions any developments or refinements that may have emerged since the method was devised;
  • The case study brief illustrates an application of the method to real-world data;
  • The resources brief signposts the reader to further material and online resources that can extend the reader's knowledge of the method.
