Biometric Residence Permit
There is now a new process in place for issuing UK
residence permits for visa applications made outside the UK.
Once your application has been processed and approved you will receive a temporary visa sticker (vignette) in your passport.
Please check that the details on this visa are correct. You will need to pay attention to the following:
- The end and start dates of your visa
- Your working rights
- The UCL licence number
- your name and details
If there are any errors it is advisable to have these amended before entering the UK.
Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
The temporary visa in your passport is valid for 30 days only from the date you wish to enter the UK. Once you enter the UK you will be required to collect your full visa, called a Biometric Residence Permit (identity card) within 10 days of arrival. You can find more information about this on the UKVI website.
Biometric Residence Permits will be distributed by UCL and will be available to pick up from the date you enter the UK.
will not allow you to start your studies unless you have collected your BRP and are able to
show it at enrolment. It is therefore advisable that you allow enough time
before your enrolment date to enter the UK and pick up your BRP.
In order to collect your BRP from UCL, you will need to enter an Alternative Collection Location (ACL) code as part of your visa application. The ACL code for UCL is 2HE484. You should enter this code into the Alternative Location field in the BRP Collection Page on Visa4UK.
Ensure the address is as follows in your application:
University College London
c/o Immigration Compliance Team
Student & Registry Services
Institute of Education Building
20 Bedford Way
You will be sent an email with your pick-up location when your BRP is ready for collection.
If your family members have also used the ACL code in their visa applications, please email the UCL Visa Compliance team for further details about BRP collection.
