Standard terms and conditions (with home use)

Campus Use

I agree that my usage of any software issued or otherwise made available to me by a School or Department of University College London is subject to the following conditions:

  1. I will ensure that all requirements of the agreements or contracts under which this software is held by University College London will be maintained. Licence conditions are shown on the Software licences, agreements & policies page.
  2. I will ensure the copyright statement is maintained on all copies of this item of software used by me
  3. I will ensure the security and confidentiality of the software licensed to me, will not make any copies of the software unless the need to install on multiple machines.
  4. If I install the software using a CD created from an ISO file I will destroy the CD following installation unless the software subsequently requires access to it.
  5. I will only download or remove media off UCL premises under the staff or student home use rights (see below)
  6. I will use the licensed software only for the purposes defined in the copyright agreement and only on the computer system covered by the agreement
  7. I will not incorporate a modified version of the software in any program written by me without the express permission of the licensor
  8. I will not reverse engineer or de-compile the Software Product
  9. I will return all copies of the software at the end of my period of employment or when requested to do so
  10. I understand that purchase of these products via Information Systems, University College London does not imply support in terms of installation, training, in-house documentation or use

Definitions of Educational use.

The product may be used by an employee or other person authorised by the licensee’s organisation. Such use of the product includes the following:

  1. Teaching
  2. Research
  3. Personal educational development
  4. Administration and management concerning the business of the Licensee’s organisation
  5. Development work associated with any of the above

General Exclusions

  1. Research consultancy or services leading to commercial exploitation of the product
  2. Use of the product which leads to it being commercially exploited by the employer of students on industrial placement or part-time courses

Staff and Student home use

In exchange for granting me, as a registered student or member of staff, the right to possess and use a copy of this software on my personal computer or workstation, I agree that:

  1. The Software is the copyrighted property of the manufacturer of this software. Neither University College London nor I own the Software or any copies thereof which are being provided to me.
  2. University College London Licenses the Software and annually pays a licence fee to enable it to make a limited number of copies available for use by registered students and staff. I agree to use the Software for academic purposes in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland only and understand this region on a temporary basis of no more than 3 months and understand that any commercial or profit making use of the Software is strictly prohibited.
  3. Source code underlying the object code provided with the Software (“Source Code”) is the manufacturer of this software trade secret and I am not authorised to access.
  4. I may not reverse assemble, reverse engineer or decompile the Software or otherwise attempt to access the Source Code.
  5. I will not copy the Software and will not permit access to the Software by others.
  6. I understand that I may only use the software for one or more of the following purposes

    1. Teaching and studying;
    2. Academic Research
    3. Personal educational Development
    4. Administration and management concerning the business of the Licensee’s organisation
  7. I will ensure that I do not use the software for any of the following purposes:

    1. Training or education of Persons who are not currently registered students or members of staff at the institution.
    2. Training course given for Fee or other benefit;
    3. Consultancy or services for a fee or other benefit;
    4. Any activity which is for any commercial purpose including without limit, timesharing, rental, or service bureau use or use for any commercial activities  of the Licensee.
  8. If I violate the terms of this Agreement, University College London has the right to take disciplinary action against me and the manufacturer has the right to take legal action against me.
  9. When I am no longer a registered student or staff of University College London, or when requested to do so by the manufacturer or University College London, I will return my copy of the Software to the appropriate official of the Educational Institution and delete or destroy any copies within my control.

In signing this agreement or by installing/downloading the software, I agree to the above conditions and I realise that the University of London (University College London) reserves the right to take legal action against individuals who cause it to be involved in legal proceedings as a result of violation of its licensing agreements
