UCL Extend is UCL's public-facing learning platform for short courses, professional education, and widening access purposes.
Overview
UCL Extend is UCL's public-facing platform for non credit-bearing short courses, including those for CPD, executive education, pre-enrolment, and widening participation purposes. UCL staff and students can access UCL Extend with their existing credentials via single sign on, but the platform is otherwise open to the general public and those not registered as UCL students.
About the UCL Extend platform
The platform and learner experience is based around Moodle, with access to many of the same plugins and tools as UCL Moodle, including live teaching platforms. UCL Extend courses can be:
- Blended to support or complement a face-to-face course or fully online;
- Set up with an integrated booking and payment process and advertised via the UCL Short Courses website;
- Delivered to open or private cohorts.
Enrolment on a UCL Extend course does not provide access to other resources for registered UCL students, such as library materials, UCL buildings, or support services.
Support for developing courses
If you are interested in developing a short course, please consult the Short Courses Toolkit for information on planning, design, and marketing of your course. Once you have done this, the UCL Online Learning team can support UCL staff through the development process, offering support and guidance on learning design, suitable digital education tools, and project management.
If you are interested in developing a UCL Extend course please complete the Course Initiation Questionnaire (CIQ) process.
