Staff Laptop Loans and Repairs
All staff must carefully consider whether their need for a loan laptop is essential. Loan laptops are strictly for individuals who are waiting for their device to be repaired or awaiting delivery of a new UCL device.
Before requesting a loan laptop, please make sure you have considered all of the options below:
- Where possible, staff who do not currently have a UCL-supplied laptop should use a personal device, if they have one available.
- If a member of staff does not have access to a personal device, or their personal device is no longer working, they should first check whether their department is willing to procure a UCL laptop for them
- If the department agrees to fund a UCL laptop, staff should follow the departmental process for procuring hardware.
- Follow the standard hardware purchasing process if the department is buying the equipment.
- If purchased by Faculty IT Managers, complete the MyServices request form.
- Professional Services staff under Vice-Provost Operations should order via the IT Clinic.
If the department is unable to fund a UCL laptop, ISD can provide a short-term loan device.
Note: The maximum loan period is 4 weeks, and the laptop must be collected from ISD. After the loan period, the department will need to arrange a permanent or temporary replacement device for the staff member.
To help prioritisation of a limited supply of equipment please provide approval from your departmental Computer Rep, with a statement outlining the impact of not having a laptop.
To request a loan laptop please complete the request form. You will require your UCL Login details.
Important: Once your loan laptop has been approved by ISD you will need to be registered on our loan booking system before you can collect your allocated laptop. We are unable to release your loan device to any other persons, so please ensure you are able to arrange collection yourself. You may be asked to provide your photo ID to confirm your identity.
Laptop Repairs
If a departmental device or an ISD-supplied loan device develops a hardware or software fault, please raise a ticket on MyServices. A member of the support team will then contact you directly to arrange the repair.
