Webinars in Zoom

Zoom webinar is an additional feature of Zoom Meeting. It is a virtual events option rather than an interactive meeting, where a host (or panel) speak directly to the audience.

Zoom webinar allows virtual events with up to 10,000 attendees. Virtual events include large online meetings, teaching activities, conferences, award ceremonies, careers fairs and open days.

The meeting functionality in Zoom Meeting should be adequate for most staff and student needs. However, for larger events (over 500 people) or where there are additional requirements, there may be a need to use an alternative platform.

See further information to help identify the most suitable platform for your event:

If you would like to speak to someone to get advice regarding your event, please use the Virtual Events self service form. On the form options, choose 'request something' and 'advice and guidance for hosting my event'. This will log a ticket and a member of the team will be in contact to help you determine which tool best fits your requirements. If you know that Zoom webinar is the correct tool for your needs, see our how-to guide to Request a webinar or large meeting licence.

For help on what you need to do in the weeks leading up to your webinar, see our Planning a Webinar page.
