Celebrating diversity: TI social party’s Holi extravaganza
13 May 2025
Termly Increment (TI) Planning for Term-3 was organised on Wednesday April 31 and Thursday May 1. Have a look at this year's Holi-themed TI social party.

Termly Increment Planning –– takes place over two days each term –– brings together our Change Portfolios and business stakeholders. This event links together high-level UCL strategy with the execution of work at team level. The two days of planning deliver a portfolio programme of work for the coming term planned around two-week sprints Our recent TI planning event was held on Wednesday, 31 April and Thursday, 1 May 2025.
Following the end of TI planning, on the evening of Thursday 1 May, colleagues had the opportunity to join the TI Social Party for an evening of fun, food and festivities. Organised by the TI Festival Committee led by Jharna Sil, the event was themed around Holi –– the vibrant Festival of Spring.
Celebrating culture and collaboration
The evening embraced the joyful spirit of Holi, a festival widely celebrated across South Asia and the diaspora, transforming the venue into a lively space filled with colour, stories, and team spirit. The event was more than just a social gathering — it was a cultural experience rooted in inclusivity and collaboration, reflecting the values that define the TI community.
Highlights of the event included vibrant and educational Holi posters displayed throughout the venue, a Rangoli (coloured sand artwork) competition, a “Colour Your Mood” welcome station where everyone was greeted with smiles, warmth, and colours, and a heartfelt Gratitude Board encouraging personal expressions. It also featured upbeat music to set the festive tone, and a delicious array of fusion treats.
What happens when Scrum meets Sweets, Stories and Synergy?
You get the Sprint Festival — a vibrant celebration where teamwork meets tradition. The event beautifully captured the synergy between teamwork and celebration. It encapsulated the collaborative spirit of TI, reinforcing bonds across teams in a relaxed, joyful setting. It was a shared moment of cultural exchange, meaningful connection and collective reflection. More than just a party, it was a reminder of the power of togetherness, cultural awareness, and the sense of belonging that fuels great teams.
The Holi theme also seamlessly aligned with UCL’s commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). UCL’s EDI agenda highlights the importance of celebrating cultural richness and nurturing an inclusive environment for all staff and students.
Our EDI team are also developing a comprehensive EDI strategic plan building on from the EDI Strategic Review last year. Our goal is to create a truly equitable university where people feel a sense of belonging. We also want to hear your views and there are several ways to get involved.
