Using the Laptop Loans for Students Service
Guidance on borrowing a laptop from one of the short term Laptop Loans cabinets available for students across campus.

Before you start...
- You will need your UCL ID card.
Instructions
Borrow a Laptop
- Scan your UCL ID card using the card reader on the front of the cabinet, under the touchscreen. You will be asked to enter your pin. This is your date of birth in the form of DDMM.
- You will be asked to enter your pin. This is your date of birth in the form of DDMM.
- Read the terms and conditions of loan and tap the green tick to proceed.
Note: If you do not agree with any of the terms and conditions, you must not proceed with the loan.
- The next screen will show your name and the options available to you. To borrow a laptop tap Borrow.
- Tap Laptop
- The unit will choose a suitable device and the locker door will start flashing. If available it will always loan out a laptop that is fully charged
Follow the instructions on screen to scan you ID card again at the locker tower with your flashing locker. Remove the laptop from the USB C Charger and close the door. Please return the laptop by the time shown on the screen.
Note: If you close the door without removing the laptop, the loan will be cancelled and nothing will be issued to your account. Start the process again by scanning your ID Card as in step 1.
Return a Laptop
- Scan your UCL ID card using the card reader on the front of the cabinet, under the touchscreen.
- You will be asked to enter your pin. This is your date of birth in the form of DDMM.
- Read the terms and conditions of loan and tap the tick to proceed.
- The next screen will show your name and the options available to you. To return a laptop tap Return.
- The unit will inform you which locker door has been opened. Return the laptop to the bay making sure you attach the USB C Charger to the device before closing the door.
Note: If the charger is not connected, the locker will not detect that the laptop has been returned, it will continue to be loaned to your account and you risk incurring a fine.
Accessible Laptop Bays
If you require a laptop from one of the lower bays then you can use the accessibilty option to make sure you are not offered a device that is out of reach.
- Tap the Accessibility icon at the top right hand of the screen
- The accessibility icon will highlight in green to show that it has been enabled. You can then proceed with the loan process as detailed in the Borrow a Laptop section above.
