Silva CMS: add a publications feed from Discovery

Before you start...

You will need to have Chief Editor, Editor or Author access in Silva;
You will need to have attended Silva training.

  1. Avoid using Internet Explorer when editing;
  2. Log on to the relevant website by adding /edit at the end of the web address or clicking on the small cross at the bottom of the page.


This code source is used to generate a UCL branded Research Publication lists, using the user's UPI. The colour of the top border will be the same as the banner colour of your website.

  1. Find the user(s) UPI by going to IRIS

    1. Search for the relevant user or department;
    2. When found, you will see their UPI at the end of the URL;
    3. Copy the UPI (e.g. ACGJU91).
  2. Create a Silva Document into which you'd like to display the Includes: Research Publication Data;
  3. Open the Silva Document and place the cursor where you wish to display the RPS data;
  4. Select ‘Includes: Research Publication Data (UPI)’ from the external sources and click 'add external source';
  5. Choose a format, i.e a list of user(s) research or all research related to a specific department;
  6. Check the appropriate boxes to modify the output;
  7. If you've selected User(s) from the Format list, enter a comma separated list of all UCL userIDs of the users you require;
  8. If you've selected A whole department from the Format list, please select the department or group from the final list;
  9. Click add external source again to save your preferences;
  10. Save and publish your Silva Document and the profile should now display in the required location.

In press publications are those with a status of Accepted, In preparation, or Submitted.
