Indigo: add a video

This guide is aimed at...

  • Chief Editors, Editors or Authors

    Before you start...

    You will need to have permission from your Chief Editor to make the changes
    You will need to have attended Intro to Silva and, preferably, Silva Plus training

    1. Avoid using Internet Explorer when editing;
    2. Log on to the relevant website by adding /edit at the end of the web address or, where appropriate, by clicking on the small cross at the bottom of the page.

    Instructions for embedding from UCL MediaCentral or UCL server

    People at UCL are advised to embed videos from MediaCentral.

    1. On your website, go to the page where you'd like to upload the video
    2. Go to the relevant page on MediaCentral
    3. Copy the link you will see to the right, called 'copy link'
    4. Go to the code source: Indigo: embed a video hosted on MediaCentral or UCL Server
    5. Use the copied link as the Media ID
    6. The flag text will appear in the top left-hand corner of the video - but on the right if you choose: 'float-right'
    7. All other options should be decided by the Editor
    8. Save and publish

    Instructions for embedding from YouTube

    1. In the external code source on the right, choose Indigo: Captioned video for YouTube or Vimeo
    2. Click on add external source
    3. Video title - optional
    4. Title web link - optional - will link to the page of the title
    5. Summary - optional
    6. Video URL - e.g. https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZQnfAFz-L_g

      1. Please check your URL is similar to the one above!
    7. Click on add external source
    8. Save and publish.

    Instructions for embedding from Vimeo

    Below is an example of what it may look like:

    You will need the embed code from Vimeo and use the information that sits between the quotes "blah" e.g. - don't use the quotes

    "//player.vimeo.com/hubnut/album/3180088?color=44bbff&background=000000&slideshow=0&video_title=1&video_byline=1"

    1. In the external code source on the right, choose Indigo: Captioned video for YouTube or Vimeo
    2. Click on add external source
    3. Video title - optional - in the example above: Prof Joost Pauwelyn
    4. Title web link - optional - will link to the page of the title
    5. Summary - optional - in the example above: The Stagnation of International Law
