Create a message rule in Mac Mail

Manage your messages using rules that automatically act on arriving or sent messages that meets conditions you specify. You can choose many conditions and actions by using the Rules Wizard.

Rules fall into one of two categories — organisation and notification. Rules don’t operate on messages that have been read, only on those that are unread.

In these instructions we will create a message rule to move messages from a specific sender to a designated folder.

1.  Click on the Mail menu from the menu bar and select Preferences...

2.  Make sure the Rules tab is selected and click on the Add Rule button.

3.  You will now set up your rule.

Description: Enter a description for this rule

If ANY of the following conditions are met: Set this section to From | contains | email of sender

Perform the following actions: Set this section to Move Message | select folder

Click OK once this is done.

4. You will now get a message asking if you want to apply this rule to all existing messages. Click Apply so all existing messages will also be moved to the selected folder.

5. You have now successfully set up your message rule and all existing messages from the selected sender should now be moved to your desired folder and all future messages will go to the same folder.
