Accountability

The Research Information & IT Services Group is accountable to:

Scope

The scope of the RIISG covers all IT services aimed at serving the specific needs of the research community at UCL such as:

  • High-Performance Computing e.g. Legion and UCL’s participation and contribution in regional, national and international facilities.
  • Research Data Storage and services
  • Research Network Services.
  • Research applications such as IRIS and RPS.

Other services which are not research-specific and which are typically used by the broader UCL community, such as email, web or desktop PCs, are NOT part of the scope of this group. These are within the scope of the Infrastructure & Common Shared IT Services group.

Terms of Reference

  • Discuss and recommend Research IT plans for the short term (the coming fiscal year) for approval by the RIISG and making any interim proposed changes to plan within the existing fiscal year.
  • Seek to continually improve the relevance, cost efficiency and efficacy of Research Information & IT Services.
  • Create as needed, and receive and agree feedback from any groups established on a particular subject area – such as the Research Computing Platforms Group.
  • Develop a roadmap for the evolution and enhancement of the services in a way which is aligned with UCL’s Research Strategy and plans.
  • Determine which projects (otherwise known as ‘bids’) related to Research Information & IT Services are included in the domain’s project portfolio for the forthcoming year. Review the straw man portfolio each term and update as required, adding or removing projects within the overall capital budget allocated to Research IT projects by the ISGC and create a proposal for approval by the RIISG.
  • Prioritise the bids, assessing the risk not doing or deferring the work.
  • Oversight of projects aimed at changing existing services or adding new services.
  • Escalation point for important policy or project issues across the programme of work for Research Information & IT Services projects.
