Marsha de Cordova, MP visits UCL Institute of Ophthalmology
2 December 2024
Marsha de Cordova, MP and chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Eye Health visited the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and the Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre to see cutting edge research driven by the core principle of ‘equity through innovation’.
Marsha de Cordova is noted for her advocacy for disability access, particularly eye health, and her role as Second Church Estates Commissioner. Marsha brings invaluable lived experience to her work and has been advancing a National Eye Health Strategy as chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Eye Health.
The Battersea MP engaged with leading specialists and our strategic approach to improve global eye health outcomes.
The group toured the NIHR Moorfields Clinical Research Facility (CRF), the largest ophthalmic experimental medicine and early phase facility in the world, followed by UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. They explored key labs, including those focused on AI, population data science in children, genomics and youth mental health in ophthalmology.
It was fantastic to demonstrate the passion of our collaborating academics and clinicians as they shape the future of technologies and treatments for those with eye conditions in the UK and beyond.
