Best presentation prize to UCL Medical Student completing research project at IoO
27 August 2024
Congratulations to Hamza Ahmed for winning Best Presentation prize for first-time presenters at this year's British Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (BriSCEV)'s conference.
UCL Medical Student Hamza Ahmed undertook an intercalated BSc in Neuroscience this year which included a research project in Omar Mahroo's lab at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
Hamza presented the project at the 21st British Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (BriSCEV) Conference held at Newcastle University earlier this month. This was a collaboration with the Department of Twin Research at King's College London and involved analysing retinal electrophysiology responses from over 2000 adult twins. Hamza found some intriguing differences between responses from participants of different ethnicity raising the question of whether reference ranges might need to be adjusted for ethnicity, though more work is needed. Hamza's talk was entitled: "Differences in 30 Hz flicker ERG peak times by ethnicity".
