Tim Levine appointed as Deputy Institute Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
8 April 2020
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is a core part of the IoO’s agenda to improve the working environment and culture for all students and staff.
Professor Tim Levine will chair our Equality Challenge Team. His mission is to engage with all members of the Institute to drive real cultural change, as well as liaising closely with the Institute Director, the other Deputy Institute Directors (Research, Education, Enterprise and International Relations), the Faculty Vice-Dean (EDI) and EDI teams across UCL.
Speaking of his appointment he said:
As Deputy Director for EDI, I plan to borrow shamelessly from UCL's LMCB (Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology), an Athena SWAN Gold department. Their EDI team is dedicated to ‘simply good practice’. I know that may seem hard to imagine in the midst of the pandemic, but we will work to get things as good as can be – for everyone. For example, we'll broaden the Equality Challenge to include protected characteristics beyond gender, particularly race and disability. And we'll co-ordinate career support from before people start at IoO until after they've left, with an IoO Career Committee. Prof Tim Levine
